Is that a real person? Who is it?
100%. This is true of all of my Bodies in 360 artwork which is created with a 3D scanner and real human bodies. All of my collaborators are anonymous unless they choose to identify themselves. This is Dr. Nathalie Frederic Pierre a Haitian history professor, earthquake survivor, and dedicated hot yoga practitioner.
Image description
A woman with locks lifts their upper body up out of the floor with lengthened arms as one leg is bent and the other reaching back straight. Unbound locks spill like a waterfall reaching the floor, we can see through to the circumference of the neck, revealing the core, aligned right between the shoulders as if a portal. The fingers and hands disappear into the floor as if the floor is a shallow pool of water. The hips, hips that hold so much emotion that we are often not conscious to, those hips are glowing brightly.
Why did you pick BEAM as a title?
As beams hold up a building, what holds us up when life quakes us? Yes, the structure of our spine. Yes, the strength of our arms. But it is also our inner light beam that we fuel when we close our eyes and focus internally.
This is a yoga pose, right?
Yep. For practitioners you'll recognize the posture known as 'Pigeon' in this piece. This posture is often held for long durations so there is time to breath into through those emotions into a deep release.
